Can not change Material Status for a Item Lot

Hi, I select Lot Numbers from Inventory togoto Item Lots screen for a ITEM & LOT , and there i Want to change Status which is Greyed out ?? I am able to change status of another item with same lot number !!! Please let me know setup change required to enable lot of a item to allow me to change Status- Thanks
